About
GAP — Global Acheh Press
is an independent publication dedicated to documenting, analyzing, and elevating the human rights, environmental, and social realities of Acheh and Sumatra. Through evidence-based reporting, weekly situation briefs, editorials, and press statements, GAP provides an international platform for issues that are too often marginalized or silenced in mainstream discourse.
Our mission is grounded in a core conviction:
the people of Acheh and Sumatra have the right to be seen, heard, and protected.
Despite their deep cultural heritage, strategic geopolitical significance, and enormous ecological value, both regions face persistent structural challenges—from deforestation and land degradation to militarization, governance failures, and inadequate disaster response. The devastating November 2025 floods triggered by Cyclone Senyar exposed not only the vulnerability of the environment but also systemic shortcomings in state protection, accountability, and humanitarian coordination.
GAP exists to ensure that these realities are brought to the forefront of international attention.
What We Cover
Human Rights
We monitor and report on rights violations, structural discrimination, military abuses, suppression of dissent, and the lived experiences of communities across Acheh and Sumatra.
Environment & Forests
We document ongoing deforestation, extractive industries, biodiversity loss, climate impacts, and environmental governance failures — focusing especially on how these intersect with human rights.
Women & Children
We highlight gender-specific harms, structural inequalities, and the disproportionate burdens borne by women, girls, and young people in times of conflict, disaster, and political neglect.
Disaster Governance
From floods and landslides to cyclones and ecological breakdown, GAP scrutinizes early-warning systems, preparedness, state responses, and the humanitarian conditions on the ground.
Weekly Briefings
Our regular briefs provide concise, reliable updates on key developments across Acheh and Sumatra, tailored for policymakers, NGOs, journalists, and researchers.
Editorial & Opinion
GAP publishes commentary, analysis, and advocacy pieces addressing governance, environmental justice, and the broader struggle for dignity and self-determination.
Press & Documentation
We issue statements, compile field-based evidence, and produce reports for international institutions, with a focus on accuracy, transparency, and accountability.

We disclose sources, methodology, and limitations whenever appropriate to maintain integrity and trust.Accountability
We view public documentation as a tool for justice, advocacy, and community empowerment. Why GAP Exists
Acheh and Sumatra remain significantly underrepresented in international media and policy discourse. Many critical issues — from military abuses and illegal logging to disaster mismanagement and gender-based violence — receive little meaningful coverage within Indonesia and even less globally.
GAP was created to change that.
We ensure that the stories, data, and truths of the region cannot be ignored, distorted, or erased.
